Welcome to Ash Lea House

Set in Alfreton, Ash Lea House provides care and support for people with learning disabilities. It’s a vibrant and exciting community where we enjoy life to the full.

We take full advantage of the local and regional facilities and have a busy programme of excursions during the year, some of which have included meeting the stars of Coronation Street, going to the dog races and visiting the zoo. This is all enhanced by each service user’s care programme, where independent living skills are key to their journey towards a more independent lifestyle.

We work closely with a number of agencies in the local area. Many service users attend Parkwood Day Centre in Alfreton or Whitemoor Day centre in Belper during the week to take part in supervised activities. We have a college in Ilkeston where people with learning disabilities can receive education or training in something that they’re interested in. Some service users do volunteer work in local charity shops. We have input from outside agencies like Advocacy and the Assessment and Treatment Service.

Staff: We have a great team of well trained qualified people at Ash Lea House. The home is appropriately staffed 24/7. There is always a manager or senior support worker on duty at any time. Additional staffing is made available for activities outside the home. During nights, we have one ‘waking night’ staff member and a ‘sleep-in’ by a manager or senior support worker.

Facilities

    • Bedrooms: 14 bedrooms, six of which have en-suite facilities. Every bedroom contains a TV for service users’ personal use. Two additional bathrooms are also available. Ash Lea House is fully adapted for people with physical disabilities, with bathrooms adaptable for hoists and wheelchair ramps throughout the residence.
    • Kitchen: A large, fully fitted kitchen that we encourage service users to make use of; self-cooking is an important part of service users’ daily skills activities. In addition, we regularly hold baking days where service users can rustle up some scrumptious cakes and pastries with appropriate supervision and support.
    • Living and dining area: A spacious dining area which we regularly use for parties and get-togethers with families. The conservatory is a peaceful, quiet area in which we hold our staff/service user reviews in and service users can go to when they want a bit of time to themselves. There is a homely lounge area which is used for relaxation. Our living spaces are spacious and welcoming where we encourage all service users to socialise with each other. Every communal area is fitted with a TV. We have an activities room where service users can try their hand at arts and crafts, nail art and hairdressing. Ash Lea House even has its very own qualified masseur on hand to give head, body and foot massages to our service users.
    • Garden: Large garden area at the back of the home where we enjoy our summer barbecues! There’s plenty of seating as well as a large lawn where service users can play outdoor games with the staff. Many of our service users volunteer to do some gardening when the weather’s nice, while supervised by staff. There’s also a front lawn complete with water feature and seating.
