Welcome to The Stables
The Stables is a registered service for up to five people aged 17 or over living with autistic spectrum conditions. Our typical service users tend to be either looking to leave their family home for the first time, transferring from child services to adult services or want to improve their independent living skills. The Stables is wheelchair accessible.
The Stables’ environment is designed to help those living with autistic spectrum condition to develop the skills they need to play an active role in community life. The Stables’ multi-skilled team applies the principles set out in the National Autism Strategy as well as lives out our Valuing People principles.
Our overwhelming aim is to respect each individual service user’s condition while also helping them develop the skills they need to make the most out of the opportunities available to them.
- Measuring outcomes: By holding regular internal meetings with service users, The Stables’ team makes sure that the outcomes that the service user and their loved ones want are achieved. Each service user’s external care team, care commissioners and family is kept up to speed with their progress.
- Bedrooms: Five bedrooms, all with en-suite bathrooms. Two of the bedrooms can be separated to promote more independent living for two service users. It also makes it possible to provide respite care to clients without disruption to longer term service users.
- Kitchens:We have two kitchens /dining and living areas. The main fully fitted kitchen is always busy! As well as preparing daily meals for all service users, we encourage self-cooking as part of service users’ journey towards independence. Developing cooking skills is an enjoyable activity and is appropriately supervised based upon individual service users’ needs. The secondary kitchen area is a smaller intimate space with a breakfast bar that is encorporated in a quite lounge.
- Living and dining areas:A spacious dining area which we use for parties and get-togethers with friends and family. We also have two quiet rooms which we use for staff/service user reviews. The lounge area is a focal point for socialising, games, arts and crafts activities and relaxation.
Staffing: The Stables has a core team of staff; usually two staff on duty in the mornings and evenings and waking night staff afterwards. This arrangement can vary depending on the needs of the service users as a whole.
